چکیده

abstract suspended sediment resulted from distributed soil erosions facilitates soil nutrients transportation and influences soil depletion. soil erosion plays a key role in loss of organic matter and therefore study of the relationship between organic matter and soil erosion processes and soil nutrient loss is very important. the present case study was conducted in kojour educational forest watershed with an area of 13263 ha to determine the relationship between eroded suspended sediment and organic matter through daily sediment sampling and measurement of suspended sediment. the water and suspended sediment sampling was made via depth-integration. the determination of suspended sediment and organic matter contents was made by decantation and loss on ignition methods, respectively. then the relationship between variables was assessed by bivariate regression method and descriptive statistics. the results of this study showed that there were high variations of organic matter and suspended sediment with respective coefficient of variation of 150 and 107. similar trend in variation for both variables in different time periods was also proved by developing regression models with correlation coefficients from 0.48 (p<0.01) to 0.94 (p<0.001) and estimation and verification errors less than 28.05 and 26.60%, respectively.

Spatial and temporal variation in suspended sediment, organic matter, and turbidity in a Minnesota prairie river: implications for TMDLs.

The Minnesota River Basin (MRB), situated in the prairie pothole region of the Upper Midwest, contributes excessive sediment and nutrient loads to the Upper Mississippi River. Over 330 stream channels in the MRB are listed as impaired by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, with turbidity levels exceeding water quality standards in much of the basin. Addressing turbidity impairment requires ...

Systematic Sampling for Suspended Sediment

Because of high costs or complex logistics, scientific populations cannot be measured entirely and must be sampled. Accepted scientific practice holds that sample selection be based on statistical principles to assure objectivity when estimating totals and variances. Probability sampling--obtaining samples with known probabilities--is the only method that assures these results. However, probabi...

Interactive comment on “Organic matter dynamics and stable isotopes for tracing sources of suspended sediment” by Y. Schindler Wildhaber

The reported study investigated spatio-temporal variations in the concentrations and stable isotope ratios of C and N in both suspended and infiltrated sediment and traced potential sources of sediment using sediment stable isotope and C/N ratios in the River Enziwigger watershed in Switzerland during a brown trout spawning season. Although similar approaches have been used i...

Interactive comment on “Organic matter dynamics and stable isotopes for tracing sources of suspended sediment” by Y. Schindler Wildhaber

The paper by Schindler Wildhaber et al. uses stable isotopes and other measures of organic components to determine sources of suspended sediment in a small watershed. The questions are of interest, the background laid out and the literature well represented and integrated. The use of the un-mixing model of Phillips and Gregg is not new for characterizing stream suspended sediment, but is a usef...
